Participant Information

A Study to assess current resilience teaching in oral health professional education programs – An Educators Perspective

You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether you wish to take part. Thank you for reading this.

What is the purpose of the study?

Resilience describes an individual’s ability to bounce back and thrive following adversity. Students with higher levels of resilience may be better able to cope with the demands of their programmes and the demands of the profession they are being trained for. This study aims to explore current resilience teaching for oral health education students across Europe. Barriers and potential strategies for increasing student resilience will also be investigated.

Why have I been chosen?

As an educator in oral health professional education, you are best placed to take part in this survey. Educators across Europe have been approached and it is hoped that responses will be gained from a wide cross section of institutions.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide whether to take part. If you do decide to take part, please complete the survey below. If you decide to take part, you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.

What will happen to me if I take part?

You will be asked to complete a short online survey which will take around 15 minutes. At the end of the survey, you will be provided with information about a follow up focus group that you may wish to participate in. You do not have to consent to this to complete the survey. The follow-up focus groups will be held online during spring 2024 and will take around 2 hours to complete. If you consent to contact following the survey you do not have to decide whether to take part in the focus groups until closer to the time.

What about confidentiality?

All information collected in this research project will remain confidential. Due to the nature of the focus groups information collected in this part of the study will not be anonymous.

What will happen to my personal data?

Data will be collected, stored, and processed in-line with GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and Cardiff University data guidelines All data will be anonymised and stored securely.

What do I have to do?

Complete the online survey, if you are selected for the focus groups you will receive an email in Spring 2024.

Are there any risks?

There are no risks to participating in this research study.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

The results of the survey and focus groups will be collated and presented at the ADEE (Association of Dental Education in Europe) conference in 2024. Results will be published and made publicly available by the end of 2024. Information around the specific schools will NOT be reported.

Who is organising and funding the research?

Will I be paid for taking part?
